"From the desk of the Acting President"

Dear SCCC members

Our Chamber is already looking back on a very fruitful and active 2018 – with more than 40 events in Zurich and Basel throughout the year. We gathered with the Swiss pharma and machinery industry as well as with mail order business representatives dealing with the challenges of a very mature and technologically advanced Chinese market. One question often came up: Do we export products or know-how to China? The answer was quite clear. Yes, a big part of the future industry development will take place in China, and, therefore, important research departments are being transferred to  China – not only to conquer the Chinese but also the global market together with our Chinese friends. More than ever, the slogan «we have to learn from each other» is reality.

On the other hand, Chinese enterprises have started to invest in Switzerland, and the Chinese government is taking further steps towards a controlled opening of its financial sector. Whether this leads sooner or later to the RMB being a global reserve currency, remains to be seen. On November 14, the China Banking and the Swiss Bankers Associations will organize a Lugano Roundtable where these questions as well as today’s asset management challenges will be analyzed and discussed. SCCC is one of the supporting partners of this event – among many high ranking speakers we are looking forward to welcome Mrs. Yang Yuanyuan, Deputy Director-General, International Cooperation and Foreign Financial Institution Supervision Department (China Banking Regulatory Commission), to this gathering in the South of Switzerland.

Best regards,

Thomas Christ
