From the desk of the President
|
Dear members of SCCC
The road trip to Guizhou is already history, and it was an eye-opener for all participants. It was impressive to see first-hand how fast a backward province has been able to transform itself and now is at the forefront of technology developments in the world’s second biggest economy. We are in the process of writing a report and will make it available to all members soon.
Ahead is now the Belt & Road Forum in Beijing in late April. Swiss President Federal Counsellor Ueli Maurer will lead a delegation to a state visit to Beijing in conjunction to the attendance of the Forum. Therefore, Swiss Government officials as well as business leaders will be briefed on the most current development on the Belt & Road Initiative. This is crucial as criticism of the initiative has been voiced from various corners, latest by the EU at the occasion of the Chinese President’s visit to Europe in March. Obtaining first hand information will allow best judgement on how the Swiss Economy can participate and benefit.
Many of you have been starting to use the newly opened Chinese visa centers in Berne and Zurich. Feedback from SCCC members has made us aware of increased visa fees, changes of the visa pickup process and additional information requirements when completing the visa application forms online. We suggest you reserve sufficient time to apply online via the new system as well as for picking up the visa.
Per email you have received the invitation for the 2019 AGM. It is the 39th AGM of the Swiss Chinese Chamber of Commerce – and it will serve mark the beginning of a one-year celebration of the 40th anniversary of our chamber. Please make sure to sign up and do not miss the panel discussions with
representatives of our founding member companies.
Finally, I wish you a beautiful spring – and that includes enjoying seasonal food. Have you ever tried truly cross-cultural seasonal delicacies? If not I suggest you try home-made dumplings filled with Baerlauch….
Kind regards,
Felix Sutter
