Dear members of SCCC

As you certainly have noticed, December is not a slow month for China related business....

On December 5, the Chinese Ambassador GENG Wenbing will host a conference on the results of the 19th Party Congress in Berne (link).

On December 9, a new type of event will take place: 1st Sino-Swiss Innovation & Entrepreneurship Cooperation Forum. Important investors from China will travel to Switzerland just for that event (link).

Do you remember that President Xi Jinping visited Switzerland (and only Switzerland) in early January on a full 4 day state visit, which is rare and in itself a significant event. Furthermore he gave a speech at the WEF in Davos that reverberated across the globe (link). Therefore, we conclude that the year 2017 will end as it started – busy and exciting.

And experience tells us that 2018 will not start slow either. We have been informed that China is rolling out the red carpet for importers; in November 2018 the first China Import Fair will take place in Shanghai. Until the end of January, exhibitors can obtain favourable prices – please find details under link.

The Chamber Board is preparing the programme for the key events and monthly luncheons in 2018. You will receive the event calendar with the membership fee invoice, or you can check it on the SCCC website (link). We are excited to offer you many highlights in 2018, building on the successful events we had in 2017. If you would like to be part of an event in 2018 as a speaker or sponsor, or if you have an idea for a theme to be addressed, do not hesitate to send us an email: info@sccc.ch.

I am looking forward to seeing you soon and send you my very best wishes for a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year.

Best regards,

Felix Sutter

The 19th Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is due to take place on 18 October 2017. China’s development model which merges state-directed and market-led economic policies means that understanding the outcomes of the Congress is especially important. As China’s growing importance in the global economy, international politics as well as global trade and diplomacy continues to rise, the outcomes of the Congress will have influence far beyond the borders of China.

The event will bring together China-watchers to investigate and discuss the key lessons learnt from the Congress, reflect on their impacts both internationally and directly relating to Switzerland. read more
