Dear Members and Friends
Hong Kong and Mainland China have just
resumed cross-border travel. People in Hong Kong and abroad are eager to
reunite with their families and to travel to Mainland China again for business.
Hong Kong expects a great demand in leisure and business travel from Mainland China
and other parts of the world. Increased flows of people and goods are expected
to boost Hong Kong’s industries, including export, catering, tourism and
retail. The Hong Kong government has announced that it will showcase itself as
a dynamic city, providing visitors with unique cultural and gourmet experiences.
While it participates at the World Economic Forum in Davos this week, many more
visits to various places throughout the year have been announced by the Hong
Kong government under the initiative “go global“.
When travelling to Hong Kong a focus may
be a visit to the Greater Bay Area, where smart city technologies drive the
development of the digital economy, in relation to which Hong Kong is destined
to become an international I&T centre. Other industry focuses may be
fintech, medtech, or artificial intelligence, which are promoted alongside Hong
Kong’s traditional industries, such as logistics, finance and insurance. The
tourist industry welcomes cruise ships back to Hong Kong. The first
international cruise ship since the pandemic will berth in Hong Kong this
month. Whether you visit Hong Kong on business or as a tourist, for leisure the
West Kowloon Cultural District is considered a must-go attraction. Various thematic
exhibitions will continue to be presented by the Hong Kong Palace Museum and
the M+, including the M+ Sigg Collection. Sports fans may already have marked
Hong Kong in their diaries, be it the Hong Kong Marathon in February or the
Hong Kong Sevens in March. On a more contemplative side, a visit to the Hong
Kong Flower Show in March with the theme “Bliss in Bloom” may be the preference.
These and other events will certainly top off your next business trip to Hong
Kong.
Happy New Year of the Rabbit!
兔年快樂!
Sincerely,
| |

China reopens borders in final farewell to zero-COVID
|
HONG KONG/BEIJING, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Travellers streamed into China by air, land and sea on Sunday, many eager for long-awaited reunions, as Beijing opened borders that have been all but shut since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After three years, mainland China opened sea and land crossings with Hong Kong and ended a requirement for incoming travellers to quarantine, dismantling a final pillar of a zero-COVID policy that had shielded China's 1.4 billion people from the virus but also cut them off from the rest of the world. | |
