Reimagining China: A Fact-Finding Mission to Greater Bay Area, Hangzhou, and Shanghai

Read here the article about the Fact-Finding Mission 2023!

In light of the eased pandemic restrictions and an increase in flights to China, the Swiss-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) and SwissCham are resuming their fact-finding and trailblazing trips to China.

After a lengthy three-year hiatus from China, we have crafted an insightful program designed to help you reconnect with, and rediscover, the economic realities and opportunities within the country.

With great pleasure, we cordially invite you to participate in our Fact-Finding Mission to the Greater Bay Area, Hangzhou, and Shanghai, taking place from 2 to 7 November 2023.

"Re-Discovery: A Special Focus on Innovation & Technology in China"

Our mission will be guided by the theme "Re-Discovery: A Special Focus on Innovation & Technology in China". Over the six-day trip, we will explore Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and Shanghai, incorporating meaningful cultural experiences that help illuminate the economic background and development of these areas.

The mission's primary goal is to cultivate a deeper understanding of the Chinese economy and culture, foster potential partnerships, and uncover market opportunities. SwissCham China chapters in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Shanghai will share exclusive insights with the participants during closed sessions.

This mission presents an array of opportunities: business cooperation meetings, networking sessions, company visits, as well as cultural immersions. These engagements are designed to promote Swiss-Chinese business development by initiating contacts and projects, allowing for exploration of market opportunities in various industries. In addition, company visits will provide a rare opportunity to visit innovative Chinese companies.

The companies selected for our visits represent a diverse mix of large global corporations and privately-owned businesses, providing a cross-section of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) sector in China. This will offer you a representative overview of the Chinese economy, highlighting its capabilities and challenges.

Our tour will culminate with a visit to the China International Import Expo (CIIE), an annual event drawing major companies and sectors from all over the world and from every part of China. Regarded as a must-attend event on the Chinese business calendar, we will visit a Chinese exhibitor providing a holistic overview of the Chinese market, potentially enabling contacts with thousands of their Chinese clients and partners. Additionally, we will attend the China Europe CEO Summit, the official side-event of CIIE hosted by ICBC.

Finally, enriching cultural experiences such as a guided tour of the M+ Sigg Collection at West Kowloon Cultural District's M+ Museum, designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron and winetasting experience of Chinese and Western wines will round off our journey.

Key highlights of the trip include:

  • Exploring the ecosystem and dynamic development of the Greater Bay Area
  • Visiting leading Chinese technology and automotive companies
  • Visiting the China International Import Expo, initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2018
  • Attending the China Europe CEO Summit, official side-event at the CIIE hosted by ICBC
